One week ago, I needed to animate a run cycle. What I ignored was how to stop the cycle in a determinated frame. So I had never done that and I started to ask somebody who knew it. Marta Segurola helped me a lot of because she gave me a clue to do it: Bake. I didn't know how to bake in Maya so I looked for it in many forums and places where somebody could know. Finally I found that if you want to stop the cycle, go to Graph Editor > Curves > Bake Channel (You can change the settings to suit your needs). Once you have done this, back to Graph Editor > Curves >Post Infinity > Constant, and the cycle will stop at the last key frame.
Moreover if the cycle is not too long you can hand-animate, It will take longer but as I read, almost everyone does so because it's more natural and clear.
All in all, I did it hand-animate because the result was less artificial. Anyway, I think it has been really interesting to have learnt the bake technique.
Hace una semana, tuve que animar un ciclo de correr. Lo que desconocía era cómo parar un ciclo en un frame determinado. Así que como nunca lo había hecho me puse a preguntar a gente que pudiera ayudarme con el tema. Marta Segurola me dio una gran pista: "bakear". Nunca había bakeado en Maya así que busqué por infinidad de foros y lugares donde alguien explicara algo más. Al final encontré que para parar el ciclo debes ir a Graph Editor > Curves > Bake Channel ( puedes adaptar las opciones a tus necesidades). Una vez que haz hecho esto debes volver a Graph Editor > Curves >Post Infinity > Constant y el ciclo se parará en el último frame que se haya creado con el bake.
De todas formas, si el ciclo no es muy largo puedes animarlo a mano, te llevará más tiempo pero según he leído la mayoría de la gente lo hace así porque queda más natural y limpio.
Después de todo esto decidí hacer la carrera a mano porque el resultado quedaba menos artificial. De todas formas, considero muy interesante haber aprendido la técnica del bakeo.
